Ingredients
- 225g penne pasta
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 can chopped tomatoes
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp dried basil
- grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Add the penne pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente.
- In a large pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic and finely chopped onion. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes, red pepper flakes, dried oregano, and dried basil. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for about 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavours to meld together. If the sauce is too thick, add a bit of the reserved pasta water.
- Add the cooked penne pasta to the pan with the sauce.
- Toss to coat the pasta evenly with the spicy arrabbiata sauce.
- Transfer the spicy arrabbiata penne to serving plates.
- Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese.
