Hot Honey Smashed Burger

Ingredients

  • 450g minced beef (80/20 fat ratio)
  • 4 burger buns
  • 50g blue cheese, crumbled
  • 4 slices of tomato
  • 4 leaves of lettuce
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • pickles
  • 1/4 cup hot honey

Instructions

  1. Divide the minced beef into 4 equal portions.
  2. Roll each portion into a loose ball.
  3. Heat a cast-iron pan or heavy frying pan over high heat until it’s almost smoking.
  4. Place one beef ball in the pan and smash it down firmly with a spatula until it’s about 1/4 inch (0.5 cm) thick.
  5. Season generously with salt and pepper.
  6. Let it cook undisturbed for 2-3 minutes until a crispy crust forms.
  7. Flip the burger after it develops a crust.
  8. Immediately sprinkle crumbled blue cheese on top.
  9. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the cheese to melt slightly.
  10. Toast the burger buns in the pan with a little butter for about 1 minute until golden.
  11. Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun.
  12. Add a tomato slice, then the blue cheese-topped smashed burger patty.
  13. Drizzle each burger with hot honey.
  14. Top with red onion slices and pickles.
  15. Add the top bun and press lightly.
