Ingredients
- 450g minced beef (80/20 fat ratio)
- 4 burger buns
- 50g blue cheese, crumbled
- 4 slices of tomato
- 4 leaves of lettuce
- 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
- pickles
- 1/4 cup hot honey
Instructions
- Divide the minced beef into 4 equal portions.
- Roll each portion into a loose ball.
- Heat a cast-iron pan or heavy frying pan over high heat until it’s almost smoking.
- Place one beef ball in the pan and smash it down firmly with a spatula until it’s about 1/4 inch (0.5 cm) thick.
- Season generously with salt and pepper.
- Let it cook undisturbed for 2-3 minutes until a crispy crust forms.
- Flip the burger after it develops a crust.
- Immediately sprinkle crumbled blue cheese on top.
- Cook for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the cheese to melt slightly.
- Toast the burger buns in the pan with a little butter for about 1 minute until golden.
- Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun.
- Add a tomato slice, then the blue cheese-topped smashed burger patty.
- Drizzle each burger with hot honey.
- Top with red onion slices and pickles.
- Add the top bun and press lightly.
